As opposed to the traditional way of training, which was largely theoretical, the new system was somewhat more practical. The cadets were actually shown how to put their aircraft into a spin and then how to get out of the spin. This photograph is believed to be East Block, or Departmental Building, which is one of three buildings on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario. Construction began in 1859 and it was completed seven years later. The block is Victorian High Gothic and was designed by Thomas Stent and Augustus Laver.
